Physiotherapy And Rehabilitation

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy, also known as physical therapy, is a healthcare profession that focuses on treating individuals to help them recover from injuries, manage pain, improve mobility, and prevent further disability. It involves using physical methods such as exercise, manual therapy, education, and modalities like heat, cold, and electrical stimulation to promote healing and restore function. Physiotherapists assess a patient's physical condition, movement patterns, strength, flexibility, and functional limitations. They identify impairments and formulate a treatment plan tailored to the individual's specific needs. Prescribed exercises to improve strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination, and balance. Hands-on techniques such as joint mobilization, manipulation, and soft tissue massage to reduce pain and improve mobility. Heat and cold therapy, ultrasound, electrical stimulation (e.g., TENS), and therapeutic ultrasound to manage pain and promote tissue healing. Educating patients about their condition, teaching proper body mechanics, ergonomic principles, and self-management strategies.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation refers to the process of restoring or improving physical, mental, and cognitive abilities lost or impaired due to injury, illness, or disease. It aims to help individuals regain independence, improve quality of life, and reintegrate into society to the fullest extent possible. Rehabilitation can encompass various aspects depending on the specific needs of the individual and the nature of their condition. Focuses on improving mobility, strength, and function after injuries, surgeries (e.g., joint replacements), or conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system. Targets impairments resulting from conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis (MS), and Parkinson's disease. Involves programs to improve cardiovascular health and respiratory function in individuals with heart disease, lung conditions, or following cardiac surgeries. Addresses cognitive deficits, memory problems, attention issues, and executive function impairments resulting from traumatic brain injury or stroke. Helps individuals recover from substance use disorders through counseling, therapy, and support groups.
